Sex Dream - ‘Sunbeam Blood Shine’ from ‘Sex Dream’
Songs For Walter - ‘Joint World Record Holders’ from ‘Meet Me At The Empire’ 7”
Bleeding Gold was certainly another of my favourite labels of 2012 and in truth I could have bent the non-existent advent rules even more by including a great deal more than just two tracks to represent their fine canon of artists. As it is I am plumping for Sex Dream and Songs For Walter; two acts from pretty much the two extremes of the Bleeding Gold spectrum. On their eponymous set the former summoned up a sound of gloomy, scratchy psychedelia in the vein of Crystal Stilts. When the digital download appeared at the tail end of March it became a regular fixture on the Unpop iPod. The release of a gorgeous blue vinyl 10” edition in October helped cement its position as one of the year’s favourites.
Songs For Walter meanwhile appeared to be disarmingly and unapologetically in love with the possibilities that lie in sparse but upbeat Pop. Their debut 7” charmed me in much the same way as those first Boy Least Likely To singles with the daft scribbles on the sleeves did. Exquisite.
