Get yer 'ot cross buns 'ere
Lovely hot cross special Alistair and a neat mix of the secular/spiritual divide. I'm not remotely churcified but the 'Malteaster' egg in the supermarket sort of summed up the relentless commercialism of the whole process. Anyway, - the Eggs intrigued me but not the same Roll away the stone as Leon Russell's so you got me tuning up some additionals: Gimme a ride to heaven- Terry Allen; Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds – Bless His Ever Loving Heart;Bap Kennedy – Please Return To Jesus; God Watch Over You- Prefab Sprout ( you could have Doo Wop In Harlem as well!). And I'm sure there are many more!

Michael, glad you enjoyed the inclusion of Eggs :) I do love that track, and dare I say it goes pretty well with the McCoys track that follows it? Rob, thanks for the suggestions. Yes, lots of possibilities that didn't make it. Maybe next year ;)

And I hadn't heard the McCoys track which is terrific!

Yeah, that McCoys track is from 'Infinite McCoys', the third album from 1968. A long way from 'Hang On Sloopy'!
