I’ve been following Everett’s blogs with a lot of interest recently. I am intrigued by how on his ‘Electrical Storm’ blog he is pulling together threads of interest to start to explore questions relating to music criticism in the 21st century. The mixture of the academic and the practical is still working for me, but it’s a fine line to walk without becoming unbalanced. It’s mostly why I’ve never been very interested in further academic pursuits myself. I’d rather just get on and do things and let someone else work out all the meaning, thank you very much. But maybe I am just lazy.
Well, whatever, if you are not already subscribed to the feeds from ET’s blogs, then you should do so right away. As an added bonus, if you do so now you get to help with his PhD research “to see how easy (or otherwise) it is to spread word-of-mouth about taste-maker critics from zero in web 2.0 environments”. So spread the word.
Oh, and meanwhile, on his ‘Music I Like’ blog ET has the unexpurgated version of his Vaselines interview for the Sub-Pop retrospective. Here’s a taster:
How come your songs had so many equine motifs?
E: I was a horse for one day after a day trip to the Isle of Millport. It’s all in the song, ‘The Day I Was a Horse’.
F: Eugene liked to shag horses.
I’ve been to Millport you know.
Proper LOL!
