It’s been a few weeks since the last mix, so here’s one to thank you for waiting. Inspired largely by hearing Sebadoh’s ‘Willing To Wait’ for the first time yesterday. I have always struggled a bit with Sebadoh. Loved Bakesale when it came out but for some reason never picked up much of Barlow’s other stuff. Folk Implosion, for example, never really did it for me. Not what I heard, anyway. Maybe I was just scared that nothing else would live up to the greatness of Bakesale. Well, whatever, ‘Willing To Wait’ is nearly as beautiful as the truly gorgeous ‘Together Or Alone’, and is more than enough to build a playlist around. Here’s the tracklisting:
Waiting For A Change - Jeffrey Lewis
Waiting Like Mad - Ben Watt
Don't Wait Up For Me - Chris Connor
Waited So Long - Denise James
Waiting Here For Someone - The Flower Pot Men
Tired Of Waiting For You - The Kinks
I Am Waiting - The Rolling Stones
Waiting For Jesus - The Claim
Waiting for a Chance - Northern Portrait
Waiting - The Raspberries
Wait Until June - The Go-Betweens
Waiting For Someone - The French Impressionists
Waiting For Someone - Mortimer
Wait And See - The Byrds
Just You Wait - Walter Scott
Waiting For Something - The Tokens
Waited For You - Rivulets
Wait For You - The Mountain Goats
Willing to Wait - Sebadoh
Waitin' Around To Die - Townes Van Zandt
(Are You) The One I've Been Waiting For? - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Waiting For A Change - Phil Wilson
Download the mix here. And remember, you like a song, please buy something by the artist (especially the ones still making records).
Bubble and Scrape is the Sebadoh album to get. It has some of the best of both Lou and Jason's songs, plus the Eric Gaffney weirdness that ties it all together and was missing from Bakesale on. Even if crazy noise isn't your thing.

'Willing To Wait' is easily one of Lou Barlow's finest moments. Simply gorgeous and with the kind of melody that once heard stays. The 'When I saw you again, a beautiful friend...' bit is just so moving. Shame Sebadoh were dull in Glasgow last year.
