Still not sure what to do with yourself tomorrow night? If you are in London you could do much worse than to go and check out the always wonderful Left Outsides, who play at The Jericho Tavern (and then at the Buffalo Bar on the 25th and upstairs at the White Room in Sunderland on May 6th) in support of the release of their debut And Colours In Between set. If you want to be really picky about things, it’s actually a re-release, since they self-released it last year. The version on Transistor Records, however, has some previously unreleased tracks and has a rather lovely new cover. It’s out on May 12th officially. If you pre-order one direct from the group, however, you might (if you are in the first 100 to do so) snag a copy of an exclusive CDR. Yum.
If, however, you happen to be in the South West (and more specifically the environs of Exeter) you should be making plans to get down to the Exeter Phoenix bar to catch a live performance from Phil Wilson. He’s playing as part of the Exeter Goes Pop! shindig. Some dodgy looking types will also play records. I am not sure yet if I will participate in the record playing proceedings, but if I do, then expect to hear some Paul Quinn and some Last Party. Maybe.
Plus, there’s a couple of terrific videos on Phil’s MySpace which have promptly made me change my opinion about The Pocketbooks, who play with him (oo-er missus) on his own mighty ‘In The Rain’ and a cover of the Go-Betweens ‘Lee Remick’.
Long live twee pop! Happy Birthday Alistair!
