Been listening to Denim a lot recently, specifically ‘Denim On Ice’. I remember when I first bought ‘Denim On Ice’. I only got it to mail to Jim Rao in the US, and when I listened to it before shipping it I hated it unreservedly. I thought it was an appalling joke. Now, I think it’s a stroke of genius, and it’s about time there was some kind of re-appraisal.
I also picked up a copy of ‘Summer Smash’ the other day. I was so excited when it arrived. I was nervous of playing it. It looks lovely, all bright yellow vinyl and all, and it’s such a genius pop single. It’s a tragedy it never got released. It would have been so wonderful to have it come out just after the Diana crash too; a delicious irony. It could have been like ‘God Save The Queen’ or something. Probably the ‘or something’, but heh.
Somebody has probably mentioned / mused on this before. But..does anybody remember Denim on the TV? Joolz Holland? Around the time of the first great Denim album? They played "Back In Denim" and "Osmonds". Please..Maybe my memory is playing tricks again!...Better still, did anybody video it?

I saw the TV performance you're referring to - it was BBC2, just before the release of Back In Denim. The show was The Late Review (or whatever they were calling it in those days). Either Kirsty Wark or Sarah Dunant introduced them - I think it was the latter. Sadly, I didn't tape it.
