from the Orindal

This package of goodies arrived recently from Orindal over in Chicago. Now I will admit that Casiotone For The Painfully Alone largely passed me by, but I have been very much taken by Owen Ashworth’s solo work as Advance Base. His ‘A Shut-In’s Prayer’ set is certainly one of the highlights of the year, and the limited run tape of instrumentals in this package is certainly worth tracking down too. As indeed is the Serengeti 7” on which Ashworth pitches backing vocals and fills the producer’s chair. Highlight for me is ‘Tom Dooley’, a song that takes me back to my youth and memories of sitting on the living room floor listening to Lonnie Donegan emanating from the red mono Marconiphone record player. My, how old that suddenly makes me appear. Just imagine how it makes me feel...
