In my spare moments the last couple of days (so not many, then) I’ve been reading Geoffrey Fletcher’s The London Nobody Knows (my copy arrived Wednesday afternoon). It’s fascinating in so far as it feels to me like a description of a London that most likely doesn’t exist any more (and may not have done so for a long time). What I like is that Fletcher concerns himself with the small details; side streets, odd shops and lesser known churches. Maybe tomorrow I will take myself out and see if any of what he mentions is indeed still in existence. We shall see.
